The UMass Lowell River Hawks were handed a brutal loss on Friday night at the Tsongas Center by the Providence College Friars, 7-3.

C.J. Smith managed his second straight game with two goals, scoring in the second and third periods. Smith now has seven multi-point games this season and has score two points in his last four games when he found his way onto the sheet. The freshman leads the River Hawks in goals and points (11-11-22).

Kevin Boyle stopped only 20-of-25 shots on Friday was replaced at 5:00 of the third period with freshman goaltender Olli Kälkäjä. The Oulu, Finland native stopped 4-of-5 shots he face in 14:41 of ice time. Likely, River Hawk fans will see freshman goaltender Jeff Smith in net tomorrow, but you never know.

UMass Lowell is back in action Saturday night in the back half of the home-and-home series against the Providence College Friars. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. eastern at the Schneider Arena in Providence, Rhode Island.
