The Tsongas Center typically plays host to the UMass Lowell hockey program, but on Sunday afternoon the ice was covered up with a basketball court as the UMass Lowell River Hawks play host to the University of Vermont Catamounts in a Men’s/Women’s doubleheader.

The men took the court in the first game, but didn’t have the gas to put away the Catamounts. In the end, UMass Lowell fell to Vermont, 61-50.

The men’s team played in front a great crowd of thousands of River Hawk fans. The atmosphere was great and something the basketball teams should be looking forward to as the school gets closer to the end of their probational period in America East.

Jahad Thomas lead all River Hawks with 20 points on 6-for-11 shooting (54.5%) from the field and 7-for-10 from the line. The freshman is having an amazing season and has been named America East Rookie of the Week a few times this season.

The River Hawks return to action when they travel to Binghamton University for a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday, January 31.
