LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The UFC will hold a special press conference with Chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and President Dana White on Wednesday, February 18 at 1:00 p.m. eastern (10:00 a.m. pacific) at the Red Rock Casino Resort Spa in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The event is expected to focus on drug testing in MMA following the recent increase in failed tests. You can watch Wednesday’s press conference below here on Mill City Sports.
Recently, a number of high-profile fighters have failed drug tests for performance-enhancing drugs and recreational drugs. Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones tested positive for cocaine, former welterweight contender Nick Diaz popped for marijuana again, former Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva failed a test for PEDs before his latest fight against Diaz and welterweight contender Hector Lombard also failed due to steroid use.
This week it was also revealed that Silva tested positive for more banned substances. Both the former middleweight champ and Diaz were temporarily suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) on Tuesday. A disciplinary hearing, which Silva would be required to attend, likely will be scheduled in March. This same hearing will determine wether to overturn his latest win to a no-decision.
With the rise in failed tests, the UFC has to make a statement and figure this problem out. Watch Fertitta and White talk on this issue and possible hear plans for the future in MMA.
