Sometimes it takes a little bit to find a home in professional hockey and Stephen Buco is no different.

Buco signed an amateur try-out agreement with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL following the end of the UMass Boston Beacons season. After skating in only a single game with no points, the forward was released from his ATO on Monday, March 16.

After searching a bit, the Providence, Rhode Island native has found a new home for the remainder of the 2014-15 season with the Louisiana IceGators of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). In two games with the IceGators, Buco has no points on four shots.

Buco just finished up his second season with UMass Boston after transferring out of UMass Lowell midway through the 2013-14 season. In two seasons with the Beacons, the forward tallied 64 points (23g, 41a) in 37 games.

During the 2014-15 season, Buco’s first full season in Boston, he tallied 48 points (16g, 32a) in 27 games. The 25-year-old was the lone Beacon named to the ECAC East All-Conference Team.

Prior to transferring schools, Buco had spent a little over two years with the River Hawks at UMass Lowell. In 61 games with UMass Lowell, Buco notched 28 points (10g, 18a) with 28 penalty minutes and plus-15.

Buco’s best season came during his freshman year when he tallied 14 points (2g, 12a) in 30 games with 18 PIM and plus-four.
