LOWELL, Mass. — The UMass Lowell River Hawks have named Jon Boswell Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Promotions replacing Scott Donnelly who left the university for Fordham University this past August.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to join the River Hawks, having witnessed the success of the program from top to bottom over the past several years from just down the road,” said Boswell. “I look forward to bringing the excitement and promotions from the world of Minor League Baseball to a new audience.”
Boswell just completed his eighth season as a full-time employee with the Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, after completing summer internships with the organization in 2006 and 2007. With the Spinners, Jon oversaw the Spinners marketing campaigns, while also serving as the team’s contact with the media and the team’s de facto graphics department. In addition, Jon managed all aspects of the Spinners online and mobile presence, including LowellSpinners.com, the Spinners’ presence on Facebook and Twitter, their e-mail marketing efforts and the development of new mobile apps.
Originally from Woburn, Mass., Jon graduated from Duquesne University with a degree in Sports Marketing/Marketing in 2007 and a Masters in Sports Leadership, also from Duquesne, in 2009. He serves on the Board of Directors for the March of Dimes in the Merrimack Valley and has been actively involved in the Spinners relationship with the organization.
With UMass Lowell his responsibilities will include developing annual marketing and promotion activities to promote attendance and ticket sales, the creation and implementation of various advertising campaigns, and serving as a liaison to student and other campus organizations.
Jon lives in Lowell with fiancé, Katie, and their beagle, Lilly.
