UMass Lowell will be taking over the Combat Zone 55 fight card on Friday, September 18 at Rockingham Park in Salem, New Hampshire. In addition to UMass Lowell junior Connor Barry in the main event, former UMass Lowell River Hawks women’s soccer standout Hannah Merullo is featured on the undercard.
Merullo spent four seasons at UMass Lowell from 2008-2011. She was named to the Northeast-10 Conference Second Team during her junior and senior years, plus she was named to the Third Team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II All-East Region Team during her senior year.
The soccer player turned mixed martial arts fighter has posted a 2-0 amateur record in her first two bouts. Merullo was impressive during her MMA debut at Combat Zone 53 in April. She defeated Lisa Dello Russo via submission at 0:55 of the second round. She went on to defeat Kitauna Parker at Cage Titans 24 on June 20 via unanimous decision.
Merullo trains at Triumph Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as the No. 5 ranked amateur women’s fighter in New England and the No. 13 ranked women’s fighter in the Northeast according to Tapology.com.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. eastern and the first fight kicks off at 7:00 p.m. Combat Zone 55 tickets may be purchased czmma.com. Parking at the racetrack is free and there is full food and beverage service. The Combat Zone 55 weigh-in is in the Sports Club at the track at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17 and is free and open to the public.
