Michael Budd has found somewhere he likes to play hockey. This is evident after he signed a one-year extension with the ESC Wedemark Scorpions of Oberliga Nord, Germany’s tier III professional hockey.
Budd will return for his fourth season in Germany and his third season with the Scorpions.
“We are very pleased that Michael will help us in the next season, to climb another step on the success ladder,” said Head Coach Dieter Reiss through a translation.
The Burlington, Ontario native has 78 points (38g, 40a) with 60 penalty minutes over 40 games this season. In what has been his most successful season, Budd currently sits tied for second place in Oberliga Nord with 38 goals and ninth in total points. His career high point total prior to this year was 72 points with ESC Moskitos Essen during his first professional hockey season in 2012-13.
Budd has also skated for the China Dragon (ALIH), Wichita Thunder (ECHL), and Pensacola Ice Flyers (SPHL) in his four-year pro career.
Prior to turning pro, Budd spent four years with the UMass Lowell River Hawks from 2008-2012. In 123 games, he tallied 42 points (20g, 22a) with 104 penalty minutes. He best season came in 2010-11 when he scored 13 points (5g, 8a) in 23 games.
