As the UMass Lowell River Hawks get set for a Hockey East Semifinals match against the Providence College Friars, the team is also preparing for the future. Forward Nick Marin has verbally committed to join the River Hawks.
Marin currently skates for the Springfield Pics or the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL). The forward has 39 points (20g, 19a) over 44 games this season while serving as team captain.
“I would like to thank Coach Tabb and the entire Springfield Pics organization for their support, and for helping me achieve my goal to play collegiate hockey,” said Marin. “They continually guided and pushed me to become a better hockey player, and encouraged me to never give up on my dream of playing Division I hockey. UMass Lowell has the perfect balance of great academics and a tremendous hockey program, and I cannot wait to be a River Hawk this upcoming fall. I would also like to thank all of my previous coaches who helped shape me into the hockey player I am today. Lastly, I would like to give a special thank you to my parents, brother, and friends for their endless love and support.”
Prior to joining Springfield, the Shrewsbury, Massachusetts native spent two seasons with the New England Wolves where he amassed 107 points (41g, 66a) over 97 games.
The 20-year-old will join the River Hawks to start the 2016-17 season as one of six forwards expected to join the team next season. Marin is the second forward to commit to UMass Lowell this month. Kenny Hausinger verbally committed on March 1.
