The Manchester Monarchs, ECHL affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have signed UMass Lowell River Hawks‘ forward Ryan McGrath to an amateur try-out (ATO) agreement.
McGrath, 24, spent the past four seasons with the River Hawks and had his Hockey East career come to an end last weekend after his squad fell short of a second trip to the Frozen Four.
Over his career with UMass Lowell, McGrath tallied 60 points (25g, 35a) in 139 games. He best season came during his freshman year when he compiled 21 points (7g, 14a) over 40 games.
The O’Fallon, Missouri native was part of the River Hawks four straight Hockey East Championship appearances and the school’s first two Hockey East titles. McGrath also made UMass Lowell’s first trip to the Frozen Four.
Prior to joining the River Hawks, McGrath spent two seasons with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and two with the St. Louis Jr. Blues of the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL).
McGrath will join fellow former River Hawk goaltender Doug Carr with the Monarchs. Former teammate of McGrath, Derek Arnold is also under contract with Manchester, but recently signed a professional try-out agreement (PTO) with the Charlotte Checkers.
This past week has been a busy week for the UMass Lowell senior class. McGrath joins Kevin Boyle and A.J. White to sign contracts this week with the Anaheim Ducks and Milwaukee Admirals respectively. Additionally, Adam Chapie is close to a deal with the New York Rangers organization.
