The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the New York Islanders, announced on Saturday they have recalled forward Josh Holmstrom from the ECHL‘s Missouri Mavericks.
Holmstrom is making his second trip to the AHL this season. During his last stint, the forward tallied a single assist over six games with two penalty minutes and a plus-one rating. In his career, Holmstrom has two assists over 13 games in the AHL.
The Colorado Springs, Colorado native has spent most of the 2015-16 season with the Mavericks at the ECHL level. Over 61 games, Holmstrom has 30 points (17g, 13a) with 47 PIM and a plus-five rating. Over his professional ECHL career, the forward has 57 points (30g, 27a) over 124 games.
Prior to turning pro, Holmstrom spent four seasons with UMass Lowell from 2010-2014, including his senior season as the captain of the team. He tallied 74 points (31g, 43a) over 154 games. He was part of the first UMass Lowell Hockey East title team and won back-to-back championships with the River Hawks.
Josh will join his older brother Ben Holmstrom with the Sound Tigers. Ben has 24 points (4g, 20a) with 100 PIM and a minus-eight rating over 71 games this season.
Bridgeport plays their home games at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The arena seats 8,525 for hockey contests.
