UMass Lowell officially released it’s 2014-15 hockey schedule over the past week, here is the full list of games.
The River Hawks will start the season off in an exhibition game against St. Thomas University on Oct. 4, but will soon follow up with their first Hockey East conference game and first regular season game of the season on Oct. 10 against Boston College. This season the Hockey East Association expanded their conference to 12 teams with the addition of the University of Connecticut joining the already outstanding conference. UConn is the second team in as many years to join the conference after Notre Dame played their debut Hockey East season in 2013-14.
UMass Lowell will face non-conference opponents such as Quinnipiac, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and Harvard at the Tsongas Center this season.
With the addition of UConn, this year sees a new Hockey East playoff structure. All 12 teams will make the postseason with the top-4 teams receiving home ice advantage and a first-round bye. Teams in fifth place through eighth place will host the bottom four in a best of three opening round series. Winners of the opening round will top-4 schools with the highest seed facing the lowest seed. As usual the semifinals and finals will be played at the TD Garden, home of the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics, on March 20 and 21, 2014.
Huge bonus for UMass Lowell fans, the 2015 Frozen Four will be played at the TD Garden in April. If the River Hawks manage to make it all the way, the travel isn’t that far.
