The Boston Celtics introduced the two newest members of the franchise on Monday afternoon: rookies Marcus Smart and James Young.
In his opening statement, team co-owner Steve Pagliuca stressed the immense talent that both owned, and how that combined with their unique styles caused the Celtics to so fiercely desire them.
“Danny [Ainge] and Brad [Stevens] worked very hard on this draft. This draft had a lot of great players in it, and as you know we were just thrilled to get these two gentlemen right here,” Pagliuca said. “We had them ranked a lot higher than they went in the draft, so we’re so excited to have both James and Marcus. They’re great basketball players, and we’re very excited for them to be here.
“Red Auerbach always said to us that we want to get instigators, not retaliators. These guys are instigators that make things happen and we’re very excited to have them here. We’re thankful that the staff did such great work to get them here.”
