UMass Lowell vs. Northeastern umass lowell Live Blog: UMass Lowell River Hawks vs. Northeastern Huskies UMass Lowell NU Live Blog

The UMass Lowell River Hawks have not only gotten off to a great non-conference season, but have started off the Hockey East conference schedule with a 3-0-0 record with wins over the Boston College Eagles on opening night and wins over the New Hampshire Wildcats last Friday and Saturday night.

This weekend the River Hawks will face the Northeastern University Huskies in a conference home-and-home series beginning on Friday night at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts.

Entering the weekend, the Huskies have yet to find a way to win a game and have started off the season with an 0-6-0 overall record and 0-2-0 in conference play. Northeastern has only scored a total of nine goals over their first six games while allowing their opponents to score 22 goals.

Last years bright spot in net for Northeastern Clay Witt has struggled out of the gate and allowed sophomore goaltender Derick Roy the opportunity to see action between the pipes. After starting the first two games of the season, Witt has been the backup to Roy.

The Huskies have a talented scoring lineup that just has yet to find a way to put the puck in the net, but they will in the near future. UMass Lowell just hopes its not this coming weekend.

Last weekend, UMass Lowell head coach Norm Bazin opted to start junior transfer Kevin Boyle on Friday night and freshman netminder Jeff Smith on Saturday night. Freshman Olli Kälkäjä has yet to see regular season game action so far.

All-time the River Hawks are 57-42-8 against the Huskies. Last season, UMass Lowell was 0-2-0 against Northeastern, including a 1-4 loss at Frozen Fenway in January 2014.
